  • longer oil filter question..

    what are the pros and cons?
    2001 Camaro 3.8 A4
    1991 3000GT VR4
    2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS

    Pros: more surface area
    less oil bypassing the filter
    cleaner oil

    Cons: ??

      I use M201...same as M101, just longer. No real Cons that I know of.

          There isn't much difference in the price for the K & N filter. I think the stock size is a # 1001, the longer one used for a blazer is a # 2001.

            The supertech I get is the same price either way last time I checked. (it's a champion filter)

              I put the longer one on my car a couple of weeks ago because the shorter one was not available. It works fine. I use the Frams from Walmart. I know some people think they are no good, but my cars have gotten very high mileage using those filters.

                The con(s) are, if you break a motor mount the front sway bar is going to rip the oil filter off.

                    btw, it does cost more for a bigger filter the 1001 k&n which i buy usually is about 12 $, and the large 2001 is about 15$

                      i have always used k and n oil filters i went with the 2001 instead of the 1001 which i usually get same exact price @ 12.99 so not bad at all!
