  • could tensioner cause bad gas milage?

just wondern, because i was told i needed a new tensioner, and my gas milage sucks. I normally get 16-17mpg city and i just got back from a 340 mile trip where i got 24mpg. (10%city, 90%highway)

If you haven't yet, a basic tune-up should help. How are your spark plugs & wires doing?

im not that much of a car guy, (i love them just dont know much about engines, etc). and havent check any of my wires and spark plugs yet. Im probaly gonna buy a tensioner and install one my self, i just thought that could be the reason why my milage is so bad

I had a tensioner go bad once but I didn't notice it affecting my gas mileage. I had a squeaky belt and that was all I noticed from it.

Bad tensioner would not effect your gas mileage.
