  • Help with mysterious SES light

    I have a 95' Camaro 3.4L V6 (5-spd) with 103K miles

Sometimes when I drive, the SES light will come on, but it goes away once I shut off my car, and back on again.

    For example:
I drive to the store, and the SES light comes on.

Park the car, go into the store to do my business, and when I get back out, and start the car again, the SES light is gone

I went to the local AutoZone yesterday and try to get the codes pulled, but they couldn't find any codes since the SES light was off at the time

The guy told me to come back when the SES light was on, keep the car running and have the codes pulled while the SES light was on

Does that make sense? WTF could be causing the SES light to go on and off like that?

My car has OBD II by the way

That is odd, I am fairly certain the code stays available to be read even if the SES light goes out. Once triggered it should stay in non-volatile memory until cleared by a diagnostic scanner.

My SES light wasn't on when I got my P0300 code read.

The 3.4 is notorius for EGR codes. I get it when I drive on the hwy or at 45+ for a while and then coast.

The code stays stored..the cheap scanners they sell at AutoZone don't really work. I have a OBDI scanner...but does the 95 have OBD2?

Did you read his full post? He already stated his car has OBD II.

</font>[/QUOTE]Initially, I thought that my car has OBD II

Upon further research, I found out that GM did weird things in the year '95 with OBDI/OBDII

It seems like my car only has an OBD II port, but it is NOT OBD II compliant, and that's why the OBD II scanners at the Autozone did not work

So basically my car is still OBD I, with an OBD II looking port

Some people told me that there are special "scanners" that can pull the codes, but they aren't free, nor cheap :(
