  • MSD coil packs any good?

My ses light came on and its a multiple engine misfire. This has happened to me many times and last time I just replaced the plugs and wires. This time I am going to replace the coils and module. I saw the MSD ignition coils here is the link. Has anyone used these are they any good?

does it do when you start the car at an idle and before the engine heats up? if not replace your o2 sensors, they will make it miss if they are bad

Is it the Random Misfire code?

My dad's car had those coils on them...definetly seemed to give it more "umph" if you will.... Stock coils are only 40,000 volts, where as those are 60,000.....

Yes it is a random misfire. I was thinking of buying the MSD ones just because they may be better, but I use my Camaro as a daily driver so I was rethinking of going with the stock ones intstead.

Re: Multiple engine misfire new coils

The MSD's would be fine for a daily driver. Good, solid improvement over stock, but nothing that's going to kill gas mileage or streetability. you'll actually more than likely gain mileage because the additional spark power will more throughly burn the gas, so you'll get more out a tank. Nothing crazy good though. I'd go with them though. My bird is my daily driver, and I've even got a DIS-4 on it.

As for your code, the coils might not be it. We replaced plugs, wires, coils, all that and it never went away. But what alot of guys overlook is the stator in the harmonic dampner. It's used to check misfires. we replaced my harmonic dampner, and BOOM. Code never came back. Turns out the stator was bent just barely, which kept making the PCM think there was a random misfire. You might want to look into the before you drop $180 on new coils.

                $54.99 per coil!? Ewww...save money and get a trio from www.3800performance.com. $149.99.

I got them on my car and a tune up is due at 275K...I didn't necessarily feel any difference, but they are pretty though.

I've ordered from them a few times and never had any problems. I don't know about the MSD coils though. Mine only lasted about 70,000 miles before they went bad.
