If they're not the same they're damn near identical. Both have the same dimenstions, same weight, same everything. There might be a slight differenece in the actual block itself, something small... but for the most part... they are the same. Till it comes down to Cams, and compression.

Well guys if you think the LS1 is not the same block as the LS6 you must think that a 383 or a 396 is not a LT1 350 block or in the LS1's case a 346 block.

Here is the final answer:
97-present Corvettes have the ls1 motor
98-02 v8 fbodies have the ls1 motor (there is no complete ls6 engine EVER put into a v8 fbody from the factory)
HOWEVER! - It has been recently found that some 01-02 v8 fbodies indeed have the ls6 block which is slightly different than the ls1 block. This does not mean that the 01-02 have the ls6 engine. there is probably no power difference between the ls1 and ls6 block and the only difference is the ls6 might be sturdier.
01-02 corvette z06's have the ls6 motor, but somehow they are slightly different allowing more power in the 02's.
THERE HAS NEVER BEEN AN ls6 MOTOR IN AN FBODY! ls6 block, yes, but no ls6 motor, like the kind in the z06's.

Sun the dealerships are open.. if I'm not snowed it (snowing right now) then I will drive down there, with a list of questions and ask a salesman, a parts guy, and a machanic if I can. I will found out
1) if the blocks are different
2) what IS the difference
3) were any in a fbody or c5
I still stand by what I've said, its just I am curious, and I want to squash this. might ask the parts guy if its possable to buy a brand new LS6 (the z06 one :/) and at what price/ part number [img]smile.gif[/img]

"When the ZO6 came out, GM decided to use the Nemark plant to build the LS6 block, since they built stronger blocks. So Nemark built LS6's, while Mantupet built LS1's. Since there were so many LS6 blocks made, several made it into F-bodies...numbers from GM are that about 10-15% of 2001 cars had LS6 blocks, and near 25% of 2002 cars did!
Cast # 12561168 is an LS6 block. Also the LS6 blocks had a duller finish than the LS1 blocks from Mantupet.
ZO6 block is not only much stronger, it also has 87% better ventilation between bays...which equates to less pumping losses at high RPMs...that's worth a few HP on it's own!"
There is also a notch on the passenger side of the block that is on the ls6 block but not the ls1.
THERE WAS NO ls6 MOTOR IN ANY FBODIES made in PRODUCTION! NEVER.
The LS6 MOTOR IS ONLY IN 01-02 z06's!
What else do you need to ask them? well if that's true about the ls6 block going into some f-bodies then that's cool and completly possible, but if it was everyone there would have been a stink about it like there was when the ls6 intake went into the 01's. interesting though.
as i said the john moss ZL1 did not have an ls6 in it i think it was an 810 cube monster. the gmmg zl1 did have an ls6 in it. i assumed you were talking about the john moss one(the black one with the big ss style scoop that was actually just his 93 with the 98+ front end). my bad.
i still say the ls1 and ls6 blocks are different. just because they were made outa aluminum doesn't make them the same. the same block to me means it comes from the factory exactly the same as the other one. if you compare the two from the factory they are different. you can go into a parts department and try and buy an ls6 block and tell them you want to pay the ls1 block price cause they are the same block and see what they say.i was swimming in the carribean. animals were hiding behind the rocks except for the little fish, but they told me the squid\'s trying to talk to me. oink, oink. where is my mind?

Did anyone else hear about the rumor of a very small number of F-bodies being illegally fitted with the full LS-6 engine? I think I read somewhere, maybe usenet, that some factory workers got in big trouble for trying to do that to a few cars and hold them till they could sell them for a ton of money. Just rumor to me, wondering if anyone else remembers this.

Very few...but some f-body's late model 02' got the LS6 block and 01-02 LS1's got the LS6 intake.
For LS1-LS6 conversion Package.

the body is different ;) , the intake is different, and the exhaust is different. other than that, the engine is STILL an ls1. if you read somewhere that the c5 creates more power than a v8 fbody, remember the power of marketing. no one wants to pay $45k for a vette with the same horsepower as a v8 f-body for $15k less. the engine is one in the same.2000 NBM M6 Camaro Z28<br />323/335
