  • my first misfire!!

so, boys and girls, let me fill you in on what happened.
my misfire cherry has been popped.
an hour or 2 ago, i was washing my car. and i decided to wash my engine bay for the first time. bad idea i guess. ive washed under the hood of cars a ton of times, but never done it to mine. anywho, i sprayed it down barely, literally hardly any, and let it run for a few, then turned the car off to dry off the non moving parts. i started it up again and i could hear a slight sound under the hood. i looked and didnt see anything while it was running. so i got in the car to go to the gas station and while driving, it started shaking and stuff but evened out after a few minutes. got back and scanned my car to see if theres any new codes. (always spitting p0420) and sure enough, cylinder 2 misfire. great my first misfire. cleared the codes and went for a drive and it didnt seem as bad and the code hasnt come back, but i only drove for a few minutes. looked under the hood and (no idea if this matters) but i did notice this.

    (chunk out of the wire)

    long story short.
washed my car. now i have cyl 2 misfire? drove and seemed to go away and code hasnt come back yet.
    why misfiring?

you could wait till the bay drys out some. sit it in the sun with the hood up so it gets nice and dry. could just be damp or wet.

i'm at work so i can't see ne pics. but i'll check when i get home

          P0420 isn't a misfire code.

P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

          That's an emissions code.

I had a random misfire code for a long time. Do what kristen said, leave it open, let it dry, some water may have gotten into the plug wires, or something else that isn't sealed well... which wires are they? the picture is too dark for me to tell (i see the face too)

yeah...suprised it didn't throw random misfire code...when i had one, it was the crank position sensor.
