  • Update on the car

Not positive if it's because it's cold or not, but time will tell.

The car puffs a bit of smoke out right now, a bluish tint. Doesn't sputter or anything that would point to loss of compression at the headgasket. I'm assuming my valve seals may be going.

I let it warm up a little and the smoke kept coming through the powerband, but I'd let off and it'd stop for a second.

Once it warms up outside I'm going to inspect again, and if it's consistantly puffing the smoke, then well...I'll have to fix her.

Sweet, I love working on my car. ( No sarcasm...I really do. )

Is it smoking more at start up then idle? Sounds like the rings maybe a little rough.

you seem to say that it smokes while driving.. this is a clear indication that your rings are worn

does it use oil while driving? when you floor it, does smoke come out?

i doubt it is your valve seals, when they are bad you will only get blue smoke on startup, a nice puff but it isnt present while driving.

how many miles are on your car?

it should smoke less when it is cold outside since the oil will be thicker (well when the engine is 100% warmed up)

what viscosity oil are you using? too thin oil will also cause this.

i cant remember how the oil pan is setup on these cars but if you have a high mileage engine you are looking at taking the engine out of the car to get the pistons out from the bottom (high mileage will push metal to the top of the block preventing you from taking the pistons out from the top, unless you want to get it cut down)

What makes you think the valve seals only leak when the motor is off?

Well..apparently I was a little paranoid...or excited to work on my car.
But I gave her time to warm up and it stopped...and every car that I saw in my neighboorhood in the mean time did the same. I dunno, I just wasn't used to a bluish tint smoke, haha and last time I saw one...well it might as well have been a smoke machine on someone else's car.

I do run royal purple, 10w30. Royal Purple is very filmy ( lack of better word? ). But yeah, at start up it doesn't smoke, and when it warms up it doesn't smoke. Also when it warmed up abit outside it didn't.

Just an idiot move on me. =)

...I was looking for excuses for head work I suppose.

Definately if I fix this plate my ICM and coils sit on. It's no longer holding at all, and sometimes when I hit bumps it'll pop off. I parked the car and I'm about to work on it before work. =(
