I'm sure most of you have seen this before. I just ran across an ad for Pulstar spark plugs and was about to dismiss it as BS when I looked at the bottom and guess what? They've got something that puts them ahead of any other BS-sounding product, dyno sheets! I was impressed. They're reporting an increase of 11 hp on a stock 350z (you paying attention kala?). That's pretty rediculous.

Now'd I'd be afraid this "bigger spark" or whatever is going to screw up something. So I did some research and basically still don't know what gap size would be appropriate. The sites faq is pretty unhelpful: "A: If your vehicle manual calls for a gap less than .040" then use the factory recommended settings. Under no circumstance set the gap to greater the .040" regardless of the manual setting." I think I'm supposed to be gapped at .060? It also pretty much says not to use them with FI or nitrous unless you know what you're doing.

    interesting.

Actually I played with thier website a bit more and found they recomend .040 for the 3.8L. Nothing about 3.4.

knowing a bit about marketing, you will realize that those dyno sheets dont necessarily mean that the sparkplugs were the ONLY difference in the engine.

its all bull****. i can make a dynograph up and say that putting a 4 foot wing on your car will add 13hp.

Yeah, but you can legally BS a dynamometer, its not too hard. That and you can omit info without saying its true or false. They could have gotten a 7 hp gain, but what they may not have mentioned is that they could have also tuned the car.

                  kinda

do you really thing that 9 out of 10 doctors recommend a certain brand of toothpaste?

no, they find 9 doctors who do, and another one that doesnt, then advertise it as so

but i guarantee that these spark plugs alone did NOT make that increase of HP, they mostlikely added an exhaust or intake to the car for the dyno

or they just took a car that hasnt had a tune up in 150k and put new plugs on it and give it a full tune up....

                        Re: Magic Plugs

well I was a good little boy and di my homework and looked up the details on the dyno test.

It was carried out by Modified Magazine and the stock plugs hod 1k miles on them. The pulses were brand new and got 11 whp. The company claims about a 6% power difference.

I also looked into how they work. Its not BS but its not new either. It looks like its essentially the same technology as MSD spark boxes except inside each plug.

So it plays like this: You have your pulse plugs
                        -about $150
                        -easy to install
-have to be replaced every 50k miles or so

                        MSD box
-about $300 (summit. correct me if its cheaper someplace else)
                        -somewhat more difficult to install
                        -doesn't have to be replaced

msd makes many different types of boxes, and they arent that hard to install at all

i would rather install one of those boxes than try to change the plugs on a ls1 car
