Re: overheating problem.
Max - I am sitting here looking at the wiring diagram in my service manual. It shows a 10 amp fuse in the underhood fuse block marked "FANS/ACTR". That fuse shows "HOT" with the key in the RUN position. Check to see if you have power there and if the fuse is good.
From that point the power runs through the relay to the fan.
Under normal operation it appears that the temp sensor sends a signal to the ECM which then sends a signal to turn the fan on. That system seems pretty complex as it runs through the ECM.
See if you have power at that fuse listed above and let me know.

Re: overheating problem.
if you open up the relay and fuse box and look under the cover, there is a layout of which relay and fuse is for. if the fuse is good, then next step is to check the relay that controls the fan. if you just want to replace the relay, just buy one from auto parts store. if the relay is good and fan still doesn't work, connect the fan to a 12v source and see if it works. if the fan motor, fuse and relay are all good, check the engine coolant sensor. invest on a chilton or haynes manual, i have the haynes and it helped me locate and troubleshoot all the parts related to the fan. i found that my engine coolant sensor was bad, $35.00 later everything is good. goodluck.

Re: overheating problem.
thanks motoservdog
#1 both coolant temp sensors are brand spankin new.
#2 i have checked the fuse for the fan and it is OK
#3 i have swapped out the fan relay with a relay i know works (it was from my bro's 3.4) and still no working fan.
#4 my a/c does not work at all, in fact the fluid or whatever it is was drained out of it when i did my header install and i never cared to fill it back up.
i hope this all helps narrow things down.
to apply a 12v source to the fan itself... how would i do that?

Re: overheating problem.
Find a 12v wire and hook that **** up! Specifically, I have nothing on hand right now. But.. you gotta be careful with fuses. Some may look perfectly fine and turn out to be fried. If you don't see it to be expensive get a new one and test it. If that's not the problem then it's not a bad idea to have an extra fuse layin around.

Re: overheating problem.
then here's what i'll do. I'll buy a new fuse and relay for the fan and just plug those in and see if that fixes it, if it doesn't then i'll move on to the other crap.
however, there are 2 or 3 relays that sound like they have to do with the fan.
1 says like "coolant fan" another says "fan high" so basically i just want to know which relay in the engine fuse box is the correct one to replace?
thanks

Re: overheating problem.
Do you have a multi-meter or a test light? Before you buy relays you need to see if you have power at that fuse. With the key in the RUN position you need to test if you have 12 volts there. You can check it with the fuse in our out. Fuses have a little "window" on the face of it so that you can put a test light or multi-meter probe there to test for power. If you have 12 volts there with the key on then we continue down the line and figure this out.
If you do not have power there then we trace backwards from that point.

Re: overheating problem.
right on, i see your point, as long as you are trying to help me one step at a time i suppose i better get them done fully and quickly, or i run the risk of losing your help and figuring out my problem. If i do not ave a test light, i will go buy one and let you know soon. thanks
