    Re: overheating problem.

I had similar problems on my 97 camaro. I replaced all hoses, sensor, thermo twice and had the system flushed. Still running way to warm. Most people on these boards state that running at 210 is normal, and I am no mechanic genius, but i do know that when the car was new it did not do this, and I also know that mine does not do that now. How did I solve it? New radiator. I tried to take mine to a radiator shop to have it "rodded", that is where they take apart the radiator and clear out any blockage. Within the hour they called and let me know that mine was over 80% clogged, and that I should just replace it. They showed it to me when I got there, it was pretty nasty. He told me that the orange coolant can sometimes build up and clog the radiator, although in my case I was the idiot that used stop leak early in my cars life. NEVER USE STOP LEAK!!! Anyway, mine stays around 180 most the time and sometimes, if low on coolant gets close to 210 ocassionally.

I do believe there is a class action lawsuit against GM, about this as well. You may want to google that and check to see if your vehicle is covered. Mine had to many miles to be included.

      Re: overheating problem.

thats all great and everything joey, but i know that it's just my rad fans not coming on.

besides that my car stays cool as long as i'm not sitting in traffic.

Have you tested the motor yet?

          Re: overheating problem.

          yes i did sort of....

i took that 12v tester that i had and i punctured the wire leading to the fan itself, i then attached the aligator clip to the positive terminal of the battery.

          this is what happened:

          nothing.

well, the light lit up on the tester so i knew i was giving it power but the fan didn't move at all.

i'm pretty sure that was the correct way to test it but either way nothing happened.

i then finally got the wire disconnected from the fan and there was some crap on it so i took that off. so what do u think, bad fan motor? i'm not sure i tested it properly tho so i'm gonna try the same thing on my bro's 3.4 and let u know.

              Re: overheating problem.

You really could test it with a speaker wire. Stick the wire in to battery connectors on both sides, and unplug the fan, then put the wires in the leads. It's not ideal, but it's all made to run on 12v, you aren't going to kill yourself. If the fan turns on, your good, if not, it's dead.

Note that it doesn't matter which way you hook it up either, reverse polarity will just make the fan spin backwards.

but didn't i already test it by giving it 12v ? with the tester. btw it's easier said than done, you can't even see the terminal unless u are underneath the car!

                  Re: overheating problem.

You may not have made a good enough connection to make it spin. Or, if you did then the motor is seized. Try it on your brother's car and see if it spins.

What you really want to do is unplug the fan and clip the alligator clips to the plug. Then connect the other end of the clips to the battery.

yeah but it's super hard to get at the plug, i mean you can't even see it.

How hard does it look to remove the motor? Maybe that way would be easier?

Either that or just replace it as you mentioned earlier and then wire up a fan switch.

Or - Cut the harness where you can access it and hotwire it at that point. Then just put it back together.

Then leave it go and quit complaining. You were given the best suggestion, disconnect the clip and hard wire it to the battery....I could do this in ten minutes, or we could take ten days and list every possible other way. If you want it fixed....Lay on the ground...and get it fixed.

Yep your right! Im gonna take my two extra cylinders and put them in my butt! I am a ***! When your done figuring out how to get that fan turned on, come see me and my build. I didn't whine about getting to that hard little clip, instead I had to fab up motor mounts and a tranny k member to hold all 8 of my classic small block chevy cylinders.

I'm not usually a butt hole, but this made me mad. Its frustrating when people are recieving helpful ideas but insist of thinking and doing otherwise. You can do it man, i've see your mods. Props to you, its not easy...but you just have to go after it...as I did. Good luck to you! And eh hem...eat it. :)
