This seems like a SERIOUS safety risk. If you get into an accident your could potentually have hot/flammable oil spilling into passenger area. And I dont see where you going to actually get much cooling since the evaporator core is under the dash and doesnt have much air fresh/cool air flowing to it. Sure you could turn the fan on but then your going to basically running the heater.
I'm not that dumb. btw when did I say evaporator core?

Awesome writeup on the whole thing, as well as some others on the same site...

That is a nice write up, if I really plan on doing this then I will refer to this page a lot thanks.

You make me want to accomplish this.

But in the end I may just find an actual oil cooler with the same dimensions of the condenser so I can easily stick it in there. That is, if I even do this at all. I don't really know that my application would even merit this but after all it was just an idea.

        Re: Oil cooler?

something you are probably going to need to consider is that this may reduce the effectiveness of your radiator and water cooling.

Yes that did cross my mind. But how much does the normal AC reduce that too though?

True. i wouldnt worry about it till u have oil temp problems there are many people on the board with turbos and ive never herd of any oil temp problems.
            Get a trans cooler first.

Quite a bit I imagine, but since you took out the AC you don't want to marginalize all that benefit you just got. Might want to consider a manual fan switch if you don't have one.

I never thought this was necessary, just wondering if the condenser was basically the same as an oil cooler. I don't know much about the drivetrain, I haven't gotten too far into that just yet.. But if a trans oil cooler is more beneficial like some of you say.. with the correct lines to route and whatever, could the condenser be used as so?

I'm not doing this till I've finished my car and I'm bored with nothing else left to mod. Which means, I'm never doing this. It was originally suppose to be an easy cheap mod but now that I've learned some since asking this question, I now know it's not that easy nor cheap. I do believe it to be possible though.

As for a manual fan switch.. eh screw it I have HP tuners, I'll keep my temp where I want it. Unless theres some benefit that a manual fan switch has over HP tuners that I don't know about.

As for now, I'm off to go kill some brain cells with a good ole friend named Jack D.

yeh if you have hpt, you're set. This really has my interest up, as I kinda want an oil cooler. I'm a little strange about my engine temps, this would be really satisfying. Hard to justify, but real cool.
