Hey everyone I'm looking for a little advice. I have a '96 camaro w/ a 3.8L. I'm currently having a abbott cam installed and I was wondering since the timing has to be advanced what timing chain would work the best and fit. I have looked at a few like the JP and rollmaster but want to be sure Im gonna buy the one that will work out best. Any advice I appreciate. Thanks Jeremy

Re: Timing Chain
Having your timing advanced has nothing to do with the timing chain. The timing is adjusted thru the PCM via HP Tuners. The only reason to get a new timing chain would be to replace the stock one with a double roller due to heavier valve springs (130 lbs or higher). With that cam you will need at least 105 lb springs, but those wouldnt require a double roller.
I've good things about both the JP and Rollmaster. I have a Rollmaster double roller.sigpic

From what I can tell, its not that difficult just time consuming. FYI, you will need a milled oil backing plate, and a stock OEM paper replacement timing cover gasket (not the metal Felpro gasket!).
Im sending you a PM with info from FTV6. There is a great thread about it with lots of info.sigpic

Re: Timing Chain
There's a lot of guys on the 3800 forum with the same question. I found a thread specifically about this here http://www.3800pro.com/forum/cams-he...clearance.html
I don't know how the l36 differs from the l67 though which is what they're dealing with. Majority of the people that installed them did no machining without problems. But like I said, I don't know how the l36 differs from the l67.
I also used a single felpro front cover gasket with no leaks.

Re: Timing Chain
Someone help me out with this: what exactly is the clearance issues you're having with a double roller? Won't milling the timing cover move everything further back, therefore making it even more cramped (milling is the removal of material, so it'll stick out less)?~97 3.8L V6 Camaro~
