help? girlfriends eclipse won't start

ok... so my girlfriend has a 1993 mitsubishi eclipse GS (non turbo) with 125k miles.. it says it has about half a tank of gas... and she just put oil in...and it won't start... i don't think there are any leaks or anything like that...shes says "her brother tried to start it....and it popped a spark plug thing out and the battery is connected to a charger but its fine and it turns over pretty fast"... so i guess their charging the battery but its fine too... any ideas?

she says her dad blew in the fuel line and didn't see any bubbles, so like theres no gas i it or something. but the gauge reads 1/4 tank... so they put some gas in it... now it says 1/2 tank but they think it only has a 1/4 now... and her brother took out a spark plug, said something was missing from it, put it back in, tried to start it and, it made a pop noise and blew the spark plug...thats about all she says...and im confused by some of her descriptions... i think she needs new spark plugs? her dad is stumped by it, and they don't have the money to take it in...

well if it blew the plug then yes she needs new plugs.

i don't know... i haven't actually been there... just what shes telling me over the phone... :(, im hoping since they have to get new spark plugs anyway that will fix... is anything else possible?

i own a mitsu they are a ***** so do alot of my friends i would say its the timing belt.. check it before you try to crank it anymore with that mileage on a mitsu you should have changed the belt at 60K and 120K and i doubt its ever been done most people don't do it till its too late.. mitsu is famous for their timing belt **** ups if you don;t change it @ their intervals

youd hear alot more than a pop if it was the timing belt.

no cam should ever be driven by a piece of rubber imo.

ahh. thought you meant it broke.


yeah, if it jumped time by a gear or so you wouldnt hear it, and it wouldnt fire

replacing it.


timing belts have to be set PERFECTLY

unless he really knows his ****, you're looking at a shop repair.

you can completely destroy a valvetrain and pistons if you set the timing wrong, especially if its DOHC

guess we better hope its not that, and just the plugs...
