  • engine runs absolutely horribly

i took my intake manifold, valve covers, throttle body, alternator, fuel rails, injectors, coil packs, and EGR (replaced EGR when done also) off my car recently to paint the fuel rails and valve covers and polish the intake, TB and alternator housing. Well i finally put it all back together today, fired the car up, and it runs like absolute ****. it fires up, and then settles down into the worst idle ever, almost dies, which it might if id let it run. it doesnt sound like your everyday small vacuum leak. im afraid to let the car run any longer than a few seconds because it sounds so bad. any thoughts?

maybe you ffffd up one of the seals, probably intake related. Is your TB hooking up alright? You could try choking the engine a lot and see if it gets better or worse- that'll give you some ideas on what the problem is.

this is what I'm thinking; when I had my plug wires on wrong, the car ran, but horribly; it would backfire constantly and would die unless I gave it some gas. Follow each wire from the coils to the plugs

Cylinder order (starting at the back, working towards nose of car):
          6 5
          4 3
          2 1

Coil order (starting at the back, working towards nose of car):

          1&4
          5&2
          3&6

yeah we got the plugs in the right spots, i triple checked and whatnot. we tinkered around a little bit and it sounds a little better now...not much better. but if this helps, i gave it some gas, and blue smoke came out the exhaust...blue??? what does that mean haha. still troubleshooting...any advice is helpful

also, when i rev the car a bit around 2000RPM's you can hear a sort of clicking noise from the exhaust. it might not be a clicking or more like a fast stutter, im not sure.

a scanner would be nice to see codes being thrown...but ive always had a check engine light from my high flow cat, and i dont have a scanner or know anyone that has one :(

alright, ive got a pretty good idea of what it might be. i was thinking it might be a bad coil pack, and i called a friend of mine that has had coil pack problems before and described the symptoms of my car, and he described his back to me, and they sound exactly the same. so tomorrow im gonna get a new one and see if thats the problem...hopefully it is

I believe blue tinted exhuast = oil realated problems.

I would check your spark plugs and see if they are coated in oil if you are having smoke like that.

not the best of signs. Might want to take your car to a pro.

Unplug the wires from the coil pack and see if the car's problem changes. If so, it's most likely not that coil pack. Like they said, blue smoke is usually oil.
