  • help with possible exaust leak

For the past few days I have been hearing a strange, almost ticking noise when I drive. Today I have my dad with me to check it out and that thing behind the alternator is loose (I believe that’s the alternator). The piece coming off the exhaust manifold. If I rev the car it starts to shake and if you push it to one side the rpms start to go down. How would I start to fix this? Cost?

I have almost the exact same problem but I think my cat needs to be replaced too, sorry but I don't know any helpful info. I just wanted to let you know I am in the same boat.

      Sounds like the egr valve.

Maybe one of the bolts went loose. You can get a new gasket for it really cheap. If the the actual valve is cracked or something then thats a little different.

Would a leak cause my car to throw a code?

Crap, just took a good look at it and it is not the gasket. It seems to be loosely anchored to the pipe under it. I am assuming the valve is cracked. How much would it cost me to replace it? Would it be too much trouble for me to do it myself?

If the actual valve is cracked then i think you would have to replace it. Its about $200 on gmpartsdirect.com

make sure the actual valve is broke. if it seems loosly anchored like you said im thinking just one of the bolts cracked or split in half.

take a picture and i could help you better

                    EGR has an extension pipe.
Perhaps you can replace just that.
you can use red RTV if you let it set for a while
before reassembly.Make sure its squeaky clean first.
