      Re: Car hesitating to start

      see above. ;)

      Check (in this order)
      battery connections
      ground connections
take battery to Autozone (or similar) and have tested
      spark plugs
      plug wires
      coils
      Ignition Control Module (ICM)

Stop checking when problem is fixed. ;)

oh, it could also be your ignition lock cylinder, but I highly doubt it. :D

a failing fuel pump could also be added to the list I believe. But then there would be other symptoms past just startup too.

              Re: Car hesitating to start

I have a problem with my 1999 firebird 3.8 starting also. I put the key in and turn it and sometimes, most times she starts, but sometimes its hesitant than turns over, and occasionally you turn the key and nothing but dashboard lights. the security light does go off, so I ruled out that. I've been reading the threads and some are seem to be like mine., but not sure. It's not the starter or battery, or relays fuses. I thought maybe the neutral safety switch, but rulling that out also, due to she starts the same way in park as in neutral, hesitant. I thought maybe the ignition switch, or the ( ICM ) Ignition control module. But not sure if thats the same thing or are they two different parts? Also if there is a ignition switch, where is it? and also the ICM, I saw in a post they said it was behind the coils, but I can not see it looking in ( Allthought the coils are there, or is it hidden underneath them? Any help would be great! Thanks

                  Re: Car hesitating to start

the starter has nothing to do with the car not starting

if the engine turns over, the starter isnt the problem

The coils are on top of the ICM. One bolt in front and one in back if i remember correclty holds it and all the coil packs in place.

To the left of the coil packs a little further back on the fuel rail. It'll have a vacuum line on it too.

the fuel press reg is in a bell shaped housing near the back of engine on top on the passenger side. the fuel rails connect to it. and there is a vacuumm line that there too
