Hey I have a 3.4L 94' Camaro and my car kept building up pressure in the hoses. So I said F it and took the thermostat completley out and let it run. Now the car runs a little bit above 160 is it okay to run the engine without a thermostat and would have the car that cool improve gas miles because it seems like it did

Your thermostat was probably stuck closed.. it would be a good idea to get a new one.

The function of the thermostat is to regulate the operating temp of the vehicle. You obviously don't want it too hot but you also don't want it to run cold, as you will get condensation inside various componets of the engine because it doesn't get hot enought to run the moisture out, causing future problems from corrosion, water contamination, etc. It is not an emergency that will leave you stranded if you don't put one in immediately but I would put one in the next chance I had.

You need to put a thermostat in it. You can install a 160 degree t-stat and it will run nice and cool.

are you sure your thermostat wasnt working?

cars WILL build pressure in the hoses until it opens up to let water through

if i were you, i would run the car and keep checking the hose to see if the pressure goes down

edit* taking the thermo out may keep your car in open loop, which will give you a SES light and make your car run rich
