• Thoughts on MSD Ingnition?

I am looking at getting just the MSD Blaster coil. I think it sell around 40 bucks from Summit. Can anyone tell me if this is a good mod or not. What sort of gains will I see with it. Is it even worth it? Please let me know. Thank you in advance.

    My opinion is this:

Performance wise you will see negligable gains. You may experience slightly better throttle response but that will probably be about it.

The biggest advantage would probably be an increase in gas mileage, but that might be just a slight improvement as well.

I say spend your money on something else, something with a little more seat of the pants change.

I think your ignition system is one part of your car that most people take for granted. Everyone with forced induction gaps their plugs smaller and smaller to keep the fire lit under higher pressures, but why not beef up the ignition and enable a better spark instead? I think $40 is a very good investment, not only for racing, but also like he mentioned for gas mileage and for our clean air.

For forced induction, sure, for a naturally aspirated 3.8 with minimal mods the stock ignition is very capable.

I have 'em. I didn't notice anything until I got my MSD ignition. They probably help facilitate a better spark though. Man, I miss my MSD-DIS4. Can't wait to get it back. (Again. :( )

I agree with John. No point if you don't have some sort of forced induction or Nitrous. You would notice the MSD DIS-4 though. But then again, if you get the DIS-4, it might toast your stock coils eventually. Oh well. :D

How's that for a straight answer?

John is right, not 100% sure but I belive the stock coils are good for around 50k volts + so... not bad.

            ;)
