        Re: Water

If you're going to use just water, don't use tap water. It will cause scaling on the surfaces (making heat transfer worse), and will accelerate corrosion.

          yeah, use distilled water.

but seriously, why not get a couple gallons of premixed?

hey with gas prices the way they are, i don't blame anyone for trying to cut corners, but the cooling system is not a good place to start.

premixed? if you're trying to save money, water is usually pretty cheap... get unmixed then put your own water in. Distilled water isn't really very cheap either. Anyway, I wouldn't run with less than 30% antifreeze because of the corrosion protection

At least 30% for the protection.

spending $15 to fill the car up with coolant is better than spending the $1500 it will cost for a shop to replace the engine

premixed will cost about the same as buying bottles of regular and distilled water

unless you either have really ****ty tap water, its usually works fine. If you have hard water or something, its a no-no though. I would rather use distilled for the peace of mind, but if your trying to save money, you'll be fine.

                          Re: Water

Mixing coolant with water to increase the boiling point. Water will boil too quickly resulting in overheating and water alone will rust your rad and other parts very very quickly. Coolant has rust inhibitors to stop rust from forming and lubricants that help keep your thermostat opening and closing when it needs to prevent overheating/overcooling. Coolant raises the boiling point of water to effeciently keep the engine at normal operating temperature.

Dont risk it...Dexcool is 15 bucks for a pre mix.

The pressure cap on the radiator raises the boiling point of the water also.
