  • Help please - Security light flash

My car ran at 1:30am this morning no problem. I accidently locked my keys in my car later this morning and called a lock smith to check it out. He got his tools and unlocked the car. He did nothing electronically. I tried to start it to go to work but for some reason my security light just flashes. I get all power. I have windows, stereo, lights, horn, everything. I can even switch it into different gears (auto) and I can also hear the oil pump priming up, but no go.

What the hell is wrong? This is the same key I have always used and there is nothing wrong with they key and I don't have a spare. Any ideas?

unplug the battery for a while (30 min or so). This probably won't work but worth a shot.

Any other ideas? It is unplugged now... Just giving it some time. I am also about to clean my key with a pencil eraser.

you might have to call the dealer to reset it. Or autozone might be able to...but I don't want to give you false hope there. Meanwhile, you should catch up on some reading about car hotwiring! Maybe if you could cross the battery with the icm or something. Does your steering wheel unlock with the key in?

search this, you need to bypass your vats system. the chip in your key is worn or the ign. its self is shot, its easy to bypass dont worry.

Indeed your VATS (Vehicle Anti-Thief System) feels its being stolen. It disables your starter and obviously you can't start the car. The problem lies in your ignition lock cylinder...it's basically worn.

You can resolve this in three ways. 1, you can spary some carb cleaner in your lock cylinder...this sometimes help clean it and get things working again. 2, Bypass it using shbox's diagram (I did this method). Shbox is your friend. or 3, get a new lock cylinder.

http://shbox.com/1/how_tos.html - study #22, use #23 and find the right resistor rating using #24.

Yes, my steering wheel DOES unlock with the key in. What does that mean?
