does the heater core have anything to do with the ac though?
yes, it provides the temp for inside the car. has everything to do with ac. have you noticed your passenger side floor under the glovebox area to be wet at all?
could be mold/fungus. get some lysol & spray it in the air inlet next time you crank on the a/c (not max), use a lot, it should kill the smell/whatever it is.

i thought that was for the heat, where the hot water flowed through the heatercore
and the ac went through the condensor or whatever is back by the firewall?
you may be 100% right, but i dont see it being very efficient going through the heatercore with all of the hot water?
97RS could be right, because the heater core and the AC evaporator are only going to be separated by the air blend doors. So if there is coolant leaking from the heater, it's probably coming out as steam or a small stream of liquid. Especially if it's steam, that would enable you to easily smell it as it works its way through the HVAC system.

ah alright, i wasnt sure how exactly that worked
i used my ac today and didnt smell anything, but i did the past two days
i will check my coolant level to see if everything is good there
i'd put money on that it's your heater core or the hosing that goes to the core. it's probably got a slow leak and staying right around there. then when your putting on your ac the motor is going, pulling and pushing air. getting it warm causing the smell.
pop the access panel off from under the pass side. take out the glove box. then take the front of the cover off the black box behind the glove box. should be able to see if there is anything leaking.
if you need to replace....you would have to disconnect the hoses from inside the engine bay. and pull the core out.
reverse to install
sounds easy but it's not fun if you have big hands and arms. but i'm a chick so i wouldn't know about that lol
