i have my egr out to clean it because it is throwing a code, or at least i believe it is.

i bought carb cleaner and would like to know which part i should clean.

there is the tube that connects to the manifold itself, i will clean that out and try to clean out the carbon, but what about the digital egr? those things are held in by torx screws and i don't even know if that is supposed to be cleaned out.

anyone know what part of the egr is supposed to/ and is safe to be cleaned out?

    this is from a 3.4

i'm hoping for a quick answer cuz i'm putting it all back together tomorrow.

    thanks

    Re: clean egr

i just cleaned the inside of the hole, and pressed the little spring thing down (its all one unit in there) but the spring thing is what is causing your code

take a picture of the EGR

i don't see any spring? are u sure we have the same EGR?

there is a small hole underneath each solenoid on the top, should i clean out those holes?

the first one is the bottom view of the digital EGR, there are 3 pin sized holes below each one of them, there are torx screws holding them down to the metal plate.

the other pic is a side view of the solenoids.

the other part of the egr is just a metal tube, so i figured that couldn't be what was throwing a code....

let me know what u think.

          yeah they are different egr's

those three torx bolts, if you press on them, do they move down?

on mine there is a spring on it and they will press down, that is usually the source of the code

the best thing you can do now is spray some cleaner in there and get a small brush that will fit in the hole, and just wiggle it around as much as you can, making sure to keep emptying the old dirty cleaner out

im not sure your situation, but i would reuse your old gasket until you are sure that your egr isnt messing up anymore, instead of ruining new gaskets (i tried to take mine off at least 10 times to clean it, and i was still getting the code, so i bought a used one off of kristen)

            Re: clean egr

well if it doesnt clear the code it's ok i will just leave it on cuz i had to change spark plugs and i wanted to take out the egr to make that easier and figured i would try to clean it while it was out.

thanks for your help, i'm gonna go put it back on now
