    Re: A/C repair

they shouldnt be able to give you the price because they dont know where the leak is, could be a number of different places. and if theyre charging you that much to find the leak, thats ridiculous. if you have the tool, finding a leak should take no more than a few minutes, especially if its a big leak like youre saying.

yeah if you have a big leak she will be hissing like a b!tch. so just make sure its nice and silent. fill it up. and then listen.

best way to find a leak is to fill it with UV leak detector before you charge it again, let it sit for a bit, and when it gets dark look at it under a black light.

If you have not already, try using the R134A with the O Ring conditioner and see if that helps. That will eliminate or at least reduce the leak if it has to do with the compressor seal or any other rubber seals. At the same time use some of the stuff with the UV dye. If the seal conditioner doesn't help, then you'll have to pinpoint that leak. I would suppose that if you cannot find the UV dye trail anywhere under the hood, that would mean that the leak is in the evaporator. Good luck.

Best and only way to find it.^ It might be leaking in a couple of spots so the die and black light is the best way to go.

i must have got one of those rare cars that came with windows.

youll save a lot of money by doing it yourself, but as far as charging and discharging, make sure you have an place do it properly. dont bother with those junk fill it yourself BS.

                            Re: A/C repair

I have a quick question. I am also troubleshooting a A/C System. My compressor shutdown and the clutch wont engage. Paid 50 bucks for a dealership to tell me I need a new compressor. The one I have now has seals that leak. Basically they want to sell me a new one installed for 647.00. Nah... I will do it myself.
I figured that it had leaked down so low that the low pressure sensor shut it down for low pressure. My question is, that if I want to gas it back up, alot of people say to unplug the low pressure sensor and jump it out to restart the compressor. That way I have it running so I can add some stop leak. Ok, I have looked and dont see it. I saw one sensor but it has 3 wires running to it. Not sure thats it. So am I headed in the right direction and if I am, where is the sensor located at and what does it look like?
Keep in mind, all relays and fuses are good. Compressor clutch will turn easy and is not locked down. My camaro is a 2000 V6 3800. If I do decide to change out the compressor, is there any directions out there someone can help me with removing and installing another. I have help with evacuating and charging the system thanks to a A/C buddy of mine. Thanks guys for any help you can provide including pictures.
