A couple of years ago my '95 Camaro(3.4L)wouldn't start. I had power everywhere(headlights, dash, etc.)when the key was on but when I tried to start it everything died and the security icon on the dash illuminated. After being towed to the local Chevy garage I was told that the ignition switch had failed. After having the ignition switch and key(with the little chip in it)replaced everything was fine. Now I'm having the same problem. The car is only driven on nice days and stored in the winter. With relatively little time on the new ignition switch it seems to have failed again. Someone told me that the key can go bad. Is there any way to check it? What is that little chip anyway? Is there any way around it? Is there any way to start the car with this condition? We tried pushing it(manual trans of course)and the engine wouldn't fire. Any help would be appreciated.

I dont think the chip can really go bad, unless it fell out of the key. The chip is a resister, you can use a common meter on the ohms "LOOKS LIKE AN UPSIDE DOWN U" setting and read the chip. Dont you have an extra key you can try?http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2245261 Green 1997, 105k, all stock except for Z28 front springs, Air shocks in the rear, home made coolant recovery tank, home made battery hold down.
