Hey guys what's up! I haven't posted in a while, so long that I can't even remember what I posted then.

I have a little problem here and I'm sure someone here has the answer.

I got a 3800 out of a 98 camaro and me and a friend swapped it into my 96 camaro.

We had to change some of the plugs on the harness but other that nothing else on the motor. She runs awesome and there are no codes.

The problem it seems (I'm no mechanic) is that the transmission crossmember is a bit different on the 98 cars so that isn't mounting up. And the second problem is the torque arm bracket on the 98 cars are different than what I had so that doesn't mount up at all.

I called every single wrecking yard around here and nobody has a clue so I'm getting a little tense you could say heh.

Are the torque arm brackets available on the aftermarket? and what is the best bet for the transmission crossmember. The car has to be done by friday arghhh!

I'm thinking of calling the dealer and to see if they can get the brackets or even the crossmember.

    What do you guys think?

    Here are the pics,

From what Ryan was saying the crossmember doesn't bolt in at all and the rubber mount should be in the middle.
And as you can see the new transmission has different bolt holes. The old trans is the one on the towel hehe.

Worst case scenario, weld a little piece of steel onto that crossmember to catch the mount. Check out BMR and lmperformance, they have lots of aftermarket chassis stuff.

All I can find there are relocation kits. Not sure what would work exactly but I'll send them a e-mail.

you need to see if the wrecking yard have any 1998 an up v6 f bods , the trans cross member changed and the mount for the tourqe arm uses the same bushing you just need to find a new bracket for a 1998 and up

I'm going to need to get some custom work done.

The 98 V6 crossmember for the trans that I got from GM will not fit.
Also that big counter weight piece off of the car will not fit the 98 transmission.

I'm going back tomorrow to the dealership to return the parts that I got.

the torque arms are interchangeable from 82-02 so you should just have to get some torque arm mount from a 98 model car, should be arround $40 from the dealer.

from the pictures i am looking at you will have to use the 96 k member and trans mount if thats possible

That is the 96 k member, the 98 k member fits the same way or not at all I should say. It will all bolt up but for whatever reason it just isnt sitting in the middle.

Dim did the same thing to his 97, took everything from the 01 or whatever year. he used the 98+ tranny and had to use the 97 crossmember. use your old cross member and things should fit nicely.
MISC: 01 parts. Some interior, T top kit, seats etc.

If you look in the first pic you can see the old crossmember and how it doesn't fit. That mount is supposed to be right in the middle and bolted up with a nut.

Come on somebody has to know for sure :)

So the 96 crossmember doesn't fit the 98 trans
and the 98 trans crossmember doesn't fit the 98 trans

So what's my next option? A LS1 auto crossmember?

If nobody has an answer I'll have to get a custom bracket made and that really blows goats :) Then again I'll have some pics to post up :P

why not put your 96 trans behind your 98 engine? Then you should be able to use your 96 cross member, better yet call up BMR tell them your situation, with all of the different cross members they have for different swaps I'm willing to bet that they have one that fit's a 96 and sits a few inches back from the stock location.
In other words while they don't have something listed for your particular application I bet they have something that will work, you just need to measure the distance from where the trans mount bolt is now to the center of the hole on the stock cross member. With that information and the year of your car you should be able to find something that will work.

Because this motor and trans came out of a 36k car. My old motor and trans had 181,000k on it.

I e-mailed BMR and got nothing back, but I suppose I could call them up.
