    Ok - not my car...

A guy I work with has a 98 Camaro, 3.8. Some mornings it will crank but it will not start. When he gets home from work it fires right up.

He thinks it happens on a wet damp morning most of the time.

He did say that when it does start after this problem happens that it throws a lot of black smoke out the exhaust.

My thoughts are that it is either the coil packs or the ignition module. Any other suggestions. The black smoke is telling me that it is getting fuel and it just can't fire it off.

    Nobody???

Would a dirty crank sensor do this?

Unfortunately this is an older man that does not take good car of this car. The engine is covered with dirt and grease. He wants my help, but I don't just want to throw parts at it.

BTW - He is amazed at how nice my 3.4 Firebird is. I told him that is what happens when you maintain your car...
