According to the Advance Auto Parts website, the stock alternator is a 105 amp unit.

Yes, it looks correct. They state that you need to upgrade you alt to batt wire to 4ga. Did you do that when you did the Alt mod?

Didn't read the whole thread. But try doing that big 3 with 0/1 ga. wire. I did it to my car and it worked WONDERS. But I also has a big optima yellow top in there at the time. As far as an upgrade for you alt. Excessive Amperage, Powermaster and there's a couple more I can't seem to think of right now. How much power are you pullin on your system. I had 120A 1200W. Could sit at a light and let it slam for a bit.

I recommend you use 0/1 ga all the way. Be sure to run a 300A fuse from you alt + to batt +. Makes the difference.

i've got my alt-pos bat. upgraded to 4 gauge, I've also got the engine to chassis ground upgraded to 4 gauge.

i just bought a 160 amp alternator which is 55 more amps than stock and 105 at idle.

my battery is from advanced auto and it's their "premium" batter, whatever that means.

as soon as i get this alternator in i will let ya'll know how it turned out. If it fixes my voltage problem i will be very very relieved.

Just curious are you running underdrive pulleys?

                      Re: Low voltage

I would disconnect the audio system and other add-ons from as close to the battery as possible, just to be sure you don't have a short to the chassy or ground wire somewhere. After disconnecting the accessories see if you still have the low voltage. If you don't have the drain anymore then reconnect them one by one to find out which one is the drain, then you'll know where to look for a short.

If you already have the alternator coming, just wait until after installing it to do this test if you are still having problems.

YES, the crankshaft underdrive pulley, had it installed with my exhaust system a while back.

was gonna put the alternator pulley on but figured it wouldn't help my voltage situation very much

so yes i have the one.

                          hey, thats good advice.

if it helps at all, my horn/cig lighter fuse blows any time i try to use the horn or put something in the cig lighter hole.... just throwin that out there idk.

could u kinda break down this idea for me? i think i understand what your getting at, you think one of my accessories like my sound system might have a short and that means that it's pullin extra power?

                            Re: Low voltage

That's my thought, something is causing a drain on your electrical system when the car is on. Electrical systems can be a pain because they don't always behave like you think they would. Whenever I deal with an electrical problem, like a fuse that's blowing, I think of the wires as pipes with leaks. If you can figure out which pipes are NOT leaking, then you can concentrate on which ones might be.

By disconnecting all the accessories (which could be as easy as pulling a few fuses) and driving around again to see if you still have a voltage drop, you can tell whether one of those systems is pulling too much power.

The best advice I can give is to try to find the electrical drain (if there is one) by a process of elimination. I'm not sure if I can give you more details than that.

On the side, one of my favorite sites for auto-electronic info is: www.the12volt.com. They have a lot of good info and forums to boot.

Everything you describe sounds like a bum alternator, since you have a new one on the way, I'd wait and see if the new one fixes the problem.

I Installed The New Alternator, Put Everything Where It Is Supposed To Go.

I Go To Start Up The Car And There Is Only Like 8 Volts Of Power!!

A Few Seconds Later, My Engine Bay Starts Smoking!!
