  • Quick questions--May need extra help from FI people too

I just removed my SC and trying to locate this loud noise. I'm not sure if it's coming from the SC because it coming right behind my gauges.

    Question:

    1. Is it safe to run the engine without the serpentine belt? Only the crank is running. I know some people race their F-car without the belt. But there won't be any adverse effect, right?

    2. Does the master cylinder make noise?

    3. Does an FMU for the SC make noise?

This all started when I replaced the FPR. The car starts up right away but now I a weird noise.

    4. Should I add pressure to the vaccuum? I noise my vaccuum from my boost gauge is down to 19-20 instead of 16-18 that I use to see

    4) perhaps the increased vacuum is because even if the SC is not putting out 'positive boost' the turbine is still spinning. this is why the cars seem 'faster' even before positive boost. If it was the other way around and the SC was inhibiting airflow at low rpm we would notice that as a hindrence to low end performance or even rough idle...like a bad air filter or something. but we don't becuase the turbine is still 'efficientt' at low (sub positive boost gauge readings) rpm.

as for the 'other noises' such as fmu and master cylinder...i don't think so. i cant tell though...not noticeable anyway. i don't the fmu would make any noise as it does not 'engage' until positive boost is achieved.

don't run the car with out the belt you will make it a mile if your lucky !!! it turns your water pump and alt.

the noise good be the FMU, but the FMU only works underboost not at idle.....

the vaccum is becuase the SC puts more load on the motor and it also pushing some air. -18 to -19 is fine for a stock car...

can you explain the noise more?

I know what you mean grayman. I wouldn't say FMU or master cylinder. Because those are the only two that's close to the firewall on the driver side.

Andrew it's sort of hard to explain. It's like having an inline fuel pump behind my gauges. It's very loud and annoying.

That's why I want to run the engine without the SC. Just for a short time. This would be at idle ofcourse and see if I could locate the noise.

I'm just worried about adverse effect or setting off SES code.

i don't think he plans on driving the car...just idling it w/0 sc and other accs. so that he can listen for odd noises.

my first guess is that it would be ok to idle w/o the belt for a bit. don't forget to keep track of temp gauge.

as for codes...once everthing is put back together it 'might' mean you need a trip to autozone to scan and remove the codes (if any) but i am sure you would set off atleast a few.
