Re: window motor replacement
@Vanbibber
Is it really that bad? What particular things are the biggest trouble? I've been avoiding doing this for about 2 years now (haven't had well-working windows for 2 years!) I'm thinking about a new car soon (maybe Pontiac G8) so maybe I won't bother, but I've been thinking about it :-/. It sucks to have to open my door to scan my badge coming into my office parking garage every day.Last edited by OneEightSeven; 07-14-2008, 08:51 PM.sigpic

The hardest part for me was putting the new motor in, I had the hardest time aligning the holes in the motor to the holes in the bracket inside the door. Lost one screw in the process, luckily the Autozone motor came with four. Convenient... Anyway, I just loosely fit in 2 screws and fidgeted around with the motor until it lined up the third. All in all took me an excruciating four hours of working at a snail's pace including stopping in the middle to buy a motor and running back and forth outside and in once I found out I needed something I didn't have. Should be easier the next time, especially now with screws and holes already drilled.
Well worth the work, saved some money and now after 2 years I can use the drive-thru without being awkward.

@u441105
Your temptation of foreign luxuries such as working windows (how sad... i see beaters with no AC but their windows work..) have inspired me to go ahead and try this after two years of little window use. My passenger side is kinda crappy too, but works much better than the driver side. I think the passenger side may be the regulator, because it just stops and if u back it up it goes again. The drivers side just cuts off (wont go either way) until the motor cools down. But who cares about passengers, they aren't people any way (J/k LOL)! Well I guess I'll give it a try, maybe next weekend if I have time. What parts did you end up missing? That would help so I don't end up driving around for parts all day if something in the guide is missing/unforseen! Thanks!sigpic

Re: window motor replacement
I had the same problem a few months back with my drivers side window. I replaced the regulator and motor with a dorman regulator/motor. Any good parts store will have them and they are way cheaper than the dealer. A friend of mine helped install it (took about 30 min) he has been a GM tech for 15 yrs and actually liked the dorman regulator better than the ac delco one. I will get part numbers when i go to work tomorrow but i hope this will help. And installation is much easier with 2 people, but can be done with a small chunk of 2x4 to hold the window in place.

Re: window motor replacement
If your windows are slow, try spraying silicone spray into the window tracks..... lots of it. You may have to take the door panels off to get them really good. On my beater, the windows could hardly go up, I had to pull on them. I doused the tracks in silicone and they work great now.2002 Silver Firebird A4
T-Tops, Leather, Y87, W68, Chrome Wheels
Bone Stock
