  • Abs Inop + Low Oil

let me start at the beginning.

a few days ago i was pulling out of a parking lot and i spilled some pop on my center console where the shifter is, i thought nothing of it at the time, i cleaned up most of it, but it's possible some got down inside there. anyhow, a little bit later my ABS INOP light came on. at this point i was thinkin "ok, well in the past it has randomly come one, stayed on for a couple days and then just shut off"

    no biggy.

the next day i was driving down the highway to work with the abs inop light still on, but then that turned off and my LOW OIL light came on!!!

i couldn't believe it, i had just done an oil change 2 months prior.

got to work, looked inside the hood, under the car, no traces of leaking oil.

so now i'm thinking "jeez, i must be burning oil at the rate of 1 quart per month!"

i went on my lunch break and got some oil, put almost a full quart in, just to make sure it would make it home ok.

the way home was great, no low oil light or abs inop (i told u it randomly comes on for a day or two then just goes off :) )

btw: so u all know, my oil dipstick is un usable to check my oil levels (i had a hack mechanic put my headers on and he bent the **** out of it so i cant use it now)

i figured i must be real low on oil and i must be burning it cuz it's not leaking anywhere. well today i changed my oil and filter and lo and behold i had 4 1/2 quarts still in there!

now that i know my oil level was FINE the whole time, can anyone shed some light on why the ABS INOP and LOW OIL light came on?

this has really got me puzzled.

it scared the **** out of me when i saw my oil was low.

heres a few other random Q's.

at what point does the LOW OIL light supposed to come on at? 2 quarts?

would that pop spill have anything to do with this whole problem?

    thanks

    max

so you put a quart in, then later drained it and only 4.5 came out? sounds like you burned a whole quart.

if he put a quart more than what he needed in, it might have found a way to overflow, like the dipstick or somethin.

My low oil light has been on since i bought the car. it's the sensor, they like to go out and scare you to death.

an extra quart of oil wouldnt overflow, its bad for your engine though. and i think he would have noticed if a whole quart overflowed.

i know i should have changed that....

i put in about 2/3 of a quart of oil the other day.

and today what came out was about 4.5 quarts total (after taking out the oil filter as well.)

btw, i put on the longer version of the k&n oil filter # 2001 so putting in 4.7 quarts or so should be fine now =)

ok either way, would the light still come on with only 1 quart gone?

Re: Abs Inop + Low Oil

i really doubt it because other than running a little hotter, the engine would run fine with a quart low. its probably just the sensor.

yea, ur sensor is loose, or the connector needs cleaning. i believe it's on the side of the oil pan near the bottom

IIRC the sensor only comes on when there is a quart left or something like that

i had that happn to me before

idk dude, he basically decided to just bend the thing out of the way of the headers.
