basically, new ones are going to last longer; don't get you a used one cause that's gay.

              Re: Egr

i got a used one from ebay, this guy has a ton.

it was very clean and came with a nice gasket too.

with it on i get a smoother idle and noticeably better gas mileage (4-5mpg easy.)

              also i pass emissions inspection.

thats the guy i was gonna get one from.

heres the scoop, tell me if this sounds ok?

i'm gonna buy that 40$ used but working EGR, then i'm gonna just pull the electrical plug on my existing EGR valve and leave that pos in the car. then in a year or so when i go to sell my car, i'll just put the working one in the car.

i've egr problems in that past and they didn't severly hinder my car's performance. my light comes on too; don't take the egr off because it needs it to run properly. just get you a new one.

i suppose a REBUILT one is ok; since you can get it for half the price. my dad rebuilds starters and alternators for people and they work like new.

what we need is a clear defenition of what the EGR does that is GOOD, what it does that is BAD, what happens when u delete it, what happens when you just unplug it, etc.
EGR stands for Exaust Gas Recirculation. It does just that, circulates exaust gases into the intake system, for better fuel economy, efficiency, and reduced emmissions. Why it would need replaced? Becuase anything built by humans is subject to defect. Just because it's new dosen't mean it cant be bad. That's why there is a warranty. If there never any problems, Ford would never need to give you a warranty. The cars are put together with parts that come from suppliers all over the world. Just like you might go to the store and by something that is defective, Ford can also get a part right out of the box that is defective. They install it, not knowing it's defective, until you buy the car, bad part and all.

                        Re: Egr

egr acctually reduces cylinder temps and pressure bringing them in to the rang of pump gas no egr means higher cylinder temps, and pressures because your burning more fuel and air wile this is good for all out power you have to run gas with a high enough octane to not knock or ping in the higher temps and pressure's, plus your cooling system has to work harder to get rid of the extra heat the engine is generating, and you loose gas milage.

                          Re: Egr

if you dont run high enough octane fuel you will easily loose the power you would gain to spark retard

You shouldn't, you're wasting money. As for the EGR, yes, you will get better mpg, and if you're in a state that tests emissions, you might want to have that one on there. If you can pass emissions without it, I would just delete the stupid thing. Im personally at my ends with the cheap *** tube that goes from the header to the valve, I have three of them and ALL of them have broken tubes. Just going to delete it myself, deal with having the SES light on all the time.

I haven't heard of anyone having problems with knock after removing an EGR, might run slightly hotter, but I have yet to see problems with knock. If you're that worried about it, run midgrade fuel.
