  • Car runs rough...

OK where to start? When I start the car, it idles fine but it like has slight shutters (the car shakes a bit) every few seconds. When I drive normally it is ok, backfires/misfires rarely and sometimes right around 2k rpm it has slight shutters again. When WOT the car backfires/misfires like CRAZY. Not a smooth ride either, everytime it backfires the car shutters as if i let off the gas a bit. The car used to shutter much worse until I replaced the fuel filter and put fuel system treatment into it. My guess is that I need new spark plugs or they need to be re-gapped and new wires. Anyone else have any input? Oh yeah, is there any easy way to get to the spark plugs easier or anything?

EDIT: the backfire isn't like big or anything, it sounds kinda like a fire cracker except a little quieter. No big booms.

I meant the easiest way altogether, it isn't easy for me to take out my engine in my driveway.

definately sound like spark plug wires.

about the plugs, get you some headers if you dont have them already. i just changed my plugs in my driveway and it only took about 5 minutes, I never had to get under the car either.

go outside right now, make sure there is absolutely no light whatsoever and start the car. then, pop your hood. lift it only enough to stick your head in a few inches. look at the plug wires, they are probably arcing and you will be able to see it.

arcing is when the coating around the conductor has a crack or a hole. electricity follows the path of least resistance. so under load, or when you accelerate, its easier for the electricity to go outside the wire via the hole in the shield rather than go to the spark plug.
