Can you be a tad more specific on "wobbly"? My shifter shakes like crazy in 3rd, but thats normal for my car. The gears locked in solid, it just has a bit of travel there.
Random thread hijack here, but some days my shifts (manual) feels stickier than others? How much is it influenced by fluid temps?
Fluid temps have a very big impact on how sticky the trans is. Sometimes mine hardly goes into first when hot. I know Kristen has this happen too...
ya, about 20 bucks or so for a poly mount. takes about 20 minutes to pull it and replace (it probably takes longer to put the car up on stands than what it does to pull the mount and cross member)
you need maybe 4 tools to do it, a few metric sockets (cant remember of the top of my head but i think it was a 15mm and a 13mm socket) a extension and a ratchet.
Crossmember bolts are 15, Mount bolts are 13. use deep sockets, it makes it much more easier to get it all out. and yeah. More time jacking the car up than actually doing the work.

i didnt use deep sockets and had no problems. but to each their own. :)

by the way. it was the trans mount. the black rubber was cracked in half and completely seperated. i took it off today. since i dont have 29.99 to spend right now.. i'm going to have to put it back on for now and hope nothing happens. whats the worst that can happen? the transmission cant fall or nothing right.

no, but it can twist from the torque, potentially damaging something
and im sorry, i was thinking of a manual transmission mount, they are the expensive ones, i think the autos are different.

From his posts, I think he has a manual. The stock mounts are expensive, and, like everyone says, very easy to break. Get a ES mount and you'll have no problems. I went through the original mount, and another stocker in a few months; swapped in a ES mount, and it's been in there for about a year now :)

Just don't slam on the gas and you should be fine; I drove with mine the same way for about a month.
The ES mount is a swap, except that it's 1/2" shorter and you have to open up the hole on the crossmember (some have claimed not needed). Some have found a way to correct this (building it up with washers, putting ball-joint ends to build it up, or using a Lt1 auto crossmember), while others have ran it the way it sits. I opened up the hole about 1/2" towards the front of the car and then bolted the ES mount right up; no problems yet, but I do plan on getting the LT1 crossmember as people have said it quiets down interior noise, has smoother acceleration and corrects pinion angle for longer lasting rear end.
Re: I did a "burn out" and broke something :(
i think i may need this mount as well. i also have a manual car what would be the best to buy over stock and where is the mount located. iv never changed a mount before. when im in gear my stick shakes alot when my hands not on it
Re: I did a "burn out" and broke something :(
get under the car passenger side, at the rear of the tranny you'll see the cross member, look directly at the middle of it, you'll see the rubber mount.
btw, its common for mounts to tear in 2 pieces. hence why its called a torn tranny mount by most.

Re: I did a "burn out" and broke something :(
Get a stock mount from a Z28/Trans Am. It's a solid hard rubber mount, that runs about $17 at autozone. Won't vibrate quite as bad as the poly and is still offset enough to not require any modification at all to the crossmember. It's still a 1/2 inch shorter, so some kind of spacer should probably be used (I used stacked washers) but some guys run them with no spacer and don't have any problem.
Hey everyone! I've been trying to remove my transmission for two days now! I need to replace the clutch. Only thing I've got left holding the transmission...
