  • 3.4 ground wires??

hey, i need a 3.4 guy who really knows the electrical schematics here to help me out.

there are 2 wires coming off of the wiring harness right about where the TPS and IAC valve are located. the wires split out there and are both grounded to a bolt that is sticking out a few inches below the left valve cover (if looking at the engine bay from outside the car) there is a stud there with these 2 wires grounded there and a nut that goes over to keep them in place.

I broke them once before and kind of jerry rigged it up again, but like i said i was just wondering if anyone knew what exactly they were.

btw, one of them disconnected recently and my car ran fine without it.

    any ideas here?

Hey I know which wires your talking about however im not sure what these wires go to. It probably still ran fine because throughout your car and on your engine you have numerous grounds. If I had to take a wild guess however seeing as how these grounds are right by the throttle body, theyre most likely for the Intake Air Temp sensor and Throttle Position sensor.

yeah i guess that would make sense, but wouldn't that mean one of them wouldn't be working correctly? if one of those wasn't working i would certainly realize it.

btw, there are 2 other wires grounded to one of the LIM bolts not too far from these ones, so it's possible THOSE are for the tps and iac. just a thought.

I'm curious too now. I took those off and put them back on when I replaced my alternator (which is a whole other thread) but didn't give it much thought. I would replace the ground though. If it's the black wire with a white stripe, the wire is probably going to the PCM. The PCM has multiple ground points, and if one of those ground points is bad, I'm sure another ground will allow it to work okay. BUT electricity flowing through parts made of multiple alloys in the engine is corrosion waiting to happen.

If it's not the black wire with a white stripe, I'd just trace the wire back to the sensor it goes to.

Definitely ground that wire, it should only take you a minute to crimp a new connector back on. You really don't want galvanic corrosion in your engine.

If it is the IAT it will still run fine. Will just throw codes.

they are both grouned right now, tho it is a poor job.

there isn't much room to move down there and the wires are so damn small.

anyhow i will check to see if it has a white stripe.

what we really need is someone who has the wiring schematic.

Max, I do believe that the wiring diagrams are in 97rs4life's post in this thread, not sure though it does say diagrams and manuals for 93 - 02 camaro so maybe check it out. it's a HUGE PDF though thats why im posting this instead of it lol

anyhow, i couln'dt find the one bolt with the 2 wires, its like looking for a needle in a haystack.

maybe i'll try looking again later.

                    thanks will
