Exactly. But don't worry about that now... get your crank pulley on and see where you are at. And hurry up... we all are waiting.

i will hang on to the old one.
btw, what are the "chances" of it "breaking" does it happen often? and when does it break more easily, when its overheating?
Again, right on the money. They are supposed to fail open and save the day. For me, a better thermo (like the more expensive NAPA Premium) is the way to go, if you compare them side by side, you'll be able to see the difference in construction. My worries are that with the way our fans are set, then when the temp gets up to 220, the failsafe will think the car is overheating and snap open... but I'm not saying that WILL happen, just think that its likely.

lol, that popcorn is gonna get stale cuz it will take a couple days for it to get here, then i have to go to a shop again and have it installed (i refuse to do it myself, do not even try to convince me.)

max, regarding the PCM's cooling table that is the exact concept I was telling you about that you didn't believe.

and landj, I know that lowering the thermo temp will not make the car overheat in all applications, but as originally stated, in my case it did. freak problem, yes, but a possibility all the same. typically you will not have a problem lowering a thermo.

        yes that pulley will work.

good luck getting my keys out of my pocket hehehe

        And bone,

I was just taking credit for pointing out the linkage between the problems and being a smarta$$

oh and my ABS INOP light is always on now adays, anyone know what that means? cuz i could have them check that out too....

It means your ABS is not working, not necessarily a bad thing imho.

bad news, the shop ****ed up, had me scheduled for the wrong day, so i'm gonna go tomorrow and drop it off.

the car seems to be running nice and cool with the 160 thermo.

                    Re: Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

oh well, i told them thursday but they scheduled me for wednesday so whatever, i'm taking it in tomorrow morning, like i said getting my coolant flushed, hoses replaced and having my exhaust welded.

i'm also having my abs looked at cuz the stupid light keeps coming on.

btw, i'm gonna jack my own thread here.

                    1. my seat belt unbuckled light is on now in my car, even when i'm buckled the stupid thing just stays on, anyone know why??

                    2. i think the new EGR i bought isn't working cuz i still get a code when decelerating from 55mph on the highway, which is what it was doing before and i was pretty sure it was the EGR that did that.

                    any thoughts?

                      Re: Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

also, just heard back about my alternator, apparently i did NOT fry it. instead he says i had a bad pully ratio (once again probably because i have an underdrive crank pulley) because apparently the ratio is (crank pulley divided by alt pulley diamater) and i obviously don't have a stock one.

He is putting on a smaller pulley to help the alternator and i'm gonna get a smaller belt to make sure it isn't slipping, does this all sound OK?

The stock pulley with the overdrive alternator pulley should make the HO alternator deliver plenty of power

thats EXACTLY what i was thinkin

i was almost wondering if thats TOO much power. :naughty:

btw, ya'll were right, the new thermo keeps the car plenty cool while driving, at about the first mark on the temp gauge, but it still gets up to 210 at just about the same rate if i slow down or stop at a light.

once again, i'm hoping the coolant flush will help, as well as the stock crank pulley (technically doesn't that help the water pump be more effective or am i just guessing here? )

Probably will, but once you get this electrical crap sorted, you can leave your manual fan switch on at lights and it should keep it cool.

ah, i never thought of that, the only reason i don't run the fan at lights is cuz my volts are low when sitting, but i need the fan on cuz my car gets hot when it sits!!!

but like you said, i can just run it at lights if i get the voltage prob. fixed.

i do have a question tho,

how will i know which serp. belt to install on my car?

i will have the stock crank pulley back on but i will have a smaller alt pulley as well (he's putting one on for me) so does that mean i should just go one size smaller than stock when i replace? will it be tight enough to prevent slipping?

                              THANKS

                                Re: Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Here's what I would do: With your belt on like you have it now, take a magic marker and put two dots next to each other on the belt tensioner, one dot on the part of the belt tensioner that moves, and the other dot on the part that doesn't. When you get the new alternator with the the smaller pulley, put the same belt on and see if it the belt tensioner moved a lot. If you think it did, go one size smaller and see where the dot is then.

If you have the original belt tensioner still on the car, it has a cool little arrow and some marks to tell you when the belt's not under the right amount of tension.

Third option is to find someone with a belt tension guage or that thinks they know by feel.
