Is it hard to change, I know it's never been changed and the car has 300,000 miles on it. I wanna do this because I think it'll improve gas milage and make my car run better. What kind do I get....where is it and how do I put it in...thanks

    Re: fuel filter

we're talking about on a fbody right? if so, its real easy man. its in the middle-towards the rear of the car on the drivers side. just follow the fuel lines and its right there in the open. you basically just undo the old connecters holding it on and pull it out of the line. then just put the new one in the same way the old came out. takes like 2 minutes and yeah if youve never done it, you need to do it asap. and any type of fuel filter will work fine. just go to a parts store and find one for your car and itll do fine.

What Fade said. + use a good backup wrench (preferably a line wrench if you have one), though mine came off pretty easy. Its easier than an oil change. I've used WIX and Fram from Walmart, both seem fine to me, though I trust WIX or Napa stuff a little more.

300,000k and never a new fuel filter? :twak:

Once you get it out, turn it so the fuel flows out the other direction over your drain pan and be amazed at the crap it picked up.

        Re: fuel filter

these guys may have had an easy job of it, and all power to them, however mine did NOT come off very easily, there was so much rust on the fittings i ended up twisting my fuel line and had to replace a small part of it.

just make sure u put pb blaster on it a few hours before u wrench at it, it will help break loose any rust.

oh yeah, mine didnt have any rust on it. if the nuts holding it on are rusted, definatly spray some penetrating oil on it first. because if youre new to doing a fuel filter, you will have no fun at all doing part of a fuel line.

            Re: fuel filter

the hardest part was getting that metal ring that holds it on back on the car.
and trying to get the smell of gas of your hands.

btw they are like 5 dollars, and i just recently changed mine with 86xxx for the first time and it helped a noticeable amount.

Yeah definitely PB blaster.. as almost an advertisement for PB blaster.. I couldn't get the thing off with a wrench then I used PB blaster on it. After letting it sit for eh 5-10 minutes I took it off with my hand.

Just use 2 open ended wreches or a adjustable one. One to hold the line and one to turn and take it off. I forget what size it is.

lol be careful even then, i had two small pipe wrenches and the thing still twisted.

then again i kind of suck at mechanics, but just be careful and soak it well, i should have used pb, i used w-40 and it didn't do jack.
