  • Finally found ticking noise, but have no clue what it is??

I have finnaly located the source of a vrey irratating ticking noise coming from my car,for a while i thought it was a noisy lifter but after building some car ramps i discovered it was coming from the end of the starter,if i push on the starter with a screwdriver it actually quites a bit,is this the flywheel or the starter gears itself, if anyone has any ideas of what this is or how much repair cost it will be please let me know, thanks for the help!!!!!!!!

Does it tick when its starting or all the time? My gut reaction is that the starter is not retracting and its hitting the flywheel teeth. But I've never had any problems with the starter like that myself. Does the noise vary with RPM? Does it vary with speed?

Do they wear kilts in Nova Scotia? (Just curious...)

      if it's an A4 I'll bet it's a cracked flexplate...

Yeah it does speed up with the rpms, and no i'v never seen a person wearing a kilt here, except the hard-core bag pipers, lol, How can i tell if its an A4,the flexplate is the flywheel right?only on an auto?

Sounds just like my tick; sounds EXACTLY like a lifter, but the noise is'nt coming from the top end...i'ma check my starter now, cuz maybe that's what mine is...
