  • High Oil Pressure?

    Okay, I have a 97 3.8 Camaro with 130k miles.

My oil pressure usually idles around the 60 mark. Rises up to around 75 with normal driving and rpm increases.

Yesterday my oil pressure would reach the 90 mark when crusing down the road at 2000rpms. It reached as far as 100 or so with just normal driving. Never seen it go that high. Idled around 85.

Today it is back to normal. Should I be worried?

    Re: High Oil Pressure?

Yea that doesn't seem right, the oil pressure sending unit might be going out on ya. Thats like a $30 part. If the car is running good I would just watch the oil PSI and if it keeps on doing it might want to replace the sending unit. It is the sensor next to the oil filter sticking straight out.

I agree, the first thing I would suspect is the sensor. It's by far the most likely part to fail.

          Re: High Oil Pressure?

          Thread Jack!

In my Situation my car is a 96 Maro and had 95K miles. About 6 Months ago i was driving to work and i smelled burned oil and saw smoke coming from my hood.. I stopped and oil was shooting out of my sending unit only when the car was running.. so i went to autozone bought the unit for 22 bucks and screwed in the new 1 and plugged it in and no more leak but the Pressure was very High at a little below the 120 mark..so i thought it was a bad sensor. so i went back to autozone with the new one and told them it was Defective?? They gave me another one and I put it on But Still the Pressure refuses to go down and has stayed there for Months..Even in idle,Regular driving and Highway driving,i also changed the Oil and nothing has changed so i dont know whats going on with it.!

          Any Thoughts!?

Jabberman, you need to hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge to see exactly what the pressure REALLY is.

Oil last changed about 6 weeks ago...1300 miles. Okay so the oil sending unit is that little sensor next to the oil filter. That looks like a pretty easy fix..
