  • High Oil pressure....is this bad?

I haven't changed my oil in 5000 miles. I use the Mobil 1, because synthetic can go longer.

I don't drive very hard. The only bad condition I had going for me was the artic weather this winter, so maybe this could be a cause.

I usually see my oil pressure at around, or a little bit higher than 40 PSI when I first start and drive my car when it is warm. I have started to notice though that when I start it now (cold), it seems to go up higher...like 55-60 PSIish.

It eventually comes down and goes back to where it normally goes to when the car warms up, but is high oil pressure a sign of stuff? Has my oil started to thicken, and turn to sludge?

BTW, I am changing my oil tommorow, but I was wondering what some people thought of this.

i would guess that synthetic (with normal everyday stop and go driving -- not circle track racing) would last atleast 6,000 miles. its normal for all oils to be thicker when cold despite the fact that it is a multiweight oil. the colder it is, the higher your oil pressure until the oil starts to get warm. 55-60 seems fairly normal for a cold start.
