Re: Has Anyone Bypassed the A/C Compressor

I'm reviving this thread to warn others who use this method. Even with a gatorback and larger tensioner pulley this setup is still not sufficient enough to keep proper tension on the belt when it does AND WILL loosen up a bit. I'm not sure but I want to blame this setup on my water pump failure. It hasn't gone yet luckily, so I'm switching to a new belt route with the idler pulley changed to a grooved one which will hopefully provide enough pressure for the tensioner from the slack in the serpentine belt that naturally increases.

many people have run this without issues? I have yet to have an issue...mind you I've only been running this way for about a month now...

I've ran mine for a year+. Your belt doesn't flap around like crazy yet does it? A part of my coolant temp sensor clip was worn from the belt, especially at idle.

not to be an *** here, I didn't read everyone else's posts yet, but why don't you just take a piece of string and run it around all the pullies you need to keep in the 'loop', mark the end with a sharpie and measure with a tape measure to find the exact length of the belt you need? or is this crazy talk? :)

You are a bit behind.. If you tried this setup, you'd understand. Only 1 belt size fits. 1/2" more or less won't work.

yeah, ok...didn't see you revived a dead thread. I can see the frustration. Can I ask what skirt you have on your Silver Camaro? She's purty... :excited:

                That's the factory ground effects.

Eh, I don't know what you wanna call it but the car isn't an RS. If it is than I never knew. But I'm pretty sure the ground effects were just an option. I've had this car since mile 5

What grill is that? Factory option too? Sorry bought mine off a lady that ended up getting me pulled over and searched because she had warrants and I still had the old license plates. So I don't know the factory options of the car. Just what I have on mine which looks like your "non-skirt" on the black car.

The grill is a typical mesh, that sadly zip ties to the original. It's hard to tell though until you're right on top of it. I have it removed right now because it started to rust. It completely damaged the paint it was sitting on. That car is in some dire need of TLC since i've been paying so much attention to my project car.

I'll take a look tommorrow to see if I can see any wear...but Ive experienced no problems so far...and there are a bunch of guys on ftv6 running this way with no issues either...what did you water pump have to do with this? you mentioned that...

Well the shaft/bearing is on it's way out. I'm pretty damn sure the inconsistent tension really didn't help.
