idle drops when stopping

hey guys.

i installed a one piece driveshaft.

took it for a test ride and the car stalled out three times before i got back going five blocks.

after running the computer on it turned out my egr valve 2 and 3 went bad.

replaced the egr and the car doest stall out anymore but the rpm is weird.

i read some posts here and sounded like my IAC was dirty.
so i cleaned it out and my throttle body.

so the problem is, when the car is in park and cold its idling fine.
i put it into drive you feel the engine, my driver mirror shakes. (i have polyutherine engine mounts so i think they are adding to it some)

the warmer the car gets the more it shakes, and when im pulling up to a red light or a stop sign and stop, the rpm drops to like 600 then up to 850 then idles at 700 or so. also when im driveing the engine sounds like it chokeing a lil.

the exhaust doesnt sound continuous, sounds broken.
also seems like im burning more gas, but ill see after i go threw the tank.

now im thinking it might be the bigger headers (pacesetters) and no catalytic converter with flowmasters on the end that might be causing some of the problems.

whish i could post a vid of it on so you guys can see it for yourselfs, but i try and explain it as best as i can.

could be the ignition, thinking icm or coils.

i cleaned the throttle body.

how would i cheak the icm or coils?
would they come up as codes?

and its a 1995.


o and another weird thing my car does:
only when im on the high way and i push the rpms over 4 and going like 50-60...

my service engine turns on and stays on until i turn the car off then on.

thats only when the light goes on.

u need to get your codes scanned.

the highway one is likely the EGR code, it is notorious.

i'm betting on a bad coil pack or icm for your other problem.

to check the coils, buy a new one and replace 1/3 until the problem goes away, if that doesn't fix it, try the icm.

have your icm tested at a local autozone for free. Take it in and make htem get it very hot. I believe the problem is usually when the car is under load though

i just got a 67 Lincoln convertible so i haven't had the time to check up on the fire bird.

this weekend i will try all the things you guys recommended.


the bird is my everyday car.
the warmer it gets now the more the car shakes.
only when im in D and on a red light. my driver side mirror goes crazy with vibration.
if i switch it to N or P the car doesnt shake,

?
once i go (normally, softly) the car takes a second to actually move. like it drops then goes kind of feeling.


mounts are new and polyutherin.

what'd you have before? could be your vibration right there. Mounts installed before or after driveshaft?

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that you bought a used driveshaft that's probably bent/unbalanced.

i got the driveshaft of a site driveshaft something .com new.
and they are suposibly balanced. Blizzard242

earlier i had the stock mounts, which needed changeing. zpwn06

i put in the mounts when i put in my pascesetter headers a month before the drive shaft. and the car was shakeing worse back then because the two piece shaft bearing was loose. now it shakes when its hot. i use more gas now too. what i usualy get a around a hundred miles on i got sixty this time.
so it might be something with the coils. also i smell the gas in the air, but im not sure if thats because of the bigger headers + no catylic + flowmasters. could the big headers be robbing me of some power, or perhaps the fact that i dont have a cat on? sounds good tho :):)

anyways sat im going to run the computer on it and see what i can do.

and my drive seat belt light is on all the time...

these cars are awesome but something always goes bad...

and as of the engine light going on, i changed my egr valve. is that what you think was makeing the light go on tkoforpresident on the highways? cuz it still goes on...

i changed the egr cuz the code came up last time the computer was checked.

just because the EGR valve code is not does not necessarily mean that the EGR is bad. sounds weird i know. it's the whole system thats funky. the egr tube enters the plenum via the metal tube, well further into the plenum can get blocked off by carbon. the only real way of cleaning it out is by removing the plenum, takiing out the square bolt underneath and cleaning it out.

btw, i'm betting on a bad misfire for your problems, it would eplain the fuel mileage decrease and bad shaking. when i had a bad misfire the car would shake violently.

change your plugs/wires/coils/icm

the plenum is in the manifold?
the new egr sits on new headers so that part is clean, so im guessing you mean there might be some gunk in the manifold area.

i checked the spark plugs and they all seem fine.

the plugs and wires were put in last may a year ago...

im looking up some coil prices now. seeing how much they go for.
