I trying to figure out why my belt slips off my car at times then sometimes it wont but if I open the hood it will come close to slipping off but it wont and some mornings it will I have bought a brand new belt several times and some of them got ripped up due to the belt slipping off
I need to know what part do I need to buy while I have a good amount of money to fix up my car and this has to be taken care of so what do I need to fix it
buy the tensioner pulley assemly...my guess is that your tensioner spring inside is starting to seperate causing your puller to lean forward and the belt to slip off...i just ran into this problem, bought a $60 tensioner assembly, and viola...no more slipping belts :)
do you have a local autozone? if so, go in to them and tell them you need a belt tensioner assembly...they will know what your talking about...or just go out and point to the top left side (passenger side) or the belt drive and tell them you need that full assembly...
should be roughly 60 bucks...i just replaced one weeks ago....fairly simple...takes about 20 minutes?
fwiw, I recently had the same problem on my 99bird at 210k miles.
The pulley was leaning forward towards the radiator and was very smooth and worn down somewhat.
I removed the pulley from the tensioner and ground it down even accross the whole pulley on a grinding wheel.
The new rough surface worked fine for several months and the belt stop jumping off.
I did eventually replace it with autozone part# 305301
You can see a pic of the part on their website for $60
A cheater way to check it is go out and push down on it and see if you can move it by hand. You really shouldn't be able to, you should need a wrench to lever it to get the belt on and off.
and just buy one at autozone/advanced/pep boys/napa/O'reily's, even if its $20 more expensive(in this case its actually half as much) its worth picking it up at a store so if you have issues you can deal with it right away then dealing with someone on ebay and waiting a week for the part.
