  • Camaro No Start

I have a 2000 Camaro Coupe. It bagan acting up last Thursday morning when I went to start it and it would not even crank. I initially thought the battery was dead, but since it's a newer battery I hit it with the multi-meter and it was still giving off a good reading. So anyways it still wouldn't start so I tried pulling the key out and putting it back in and after messing with it for about 3 minutes it finally fired up. So it ran good the rest of the day and Friday morning till after work, I went to start it again, and nothing, it would not crank, no dome lights, headlights would not turn on, not even the radar would turn on. So I thought it was dead again but after playing with the key (pull it out, put it in, turn it, 10 times) it started again. Now tonight I went to get in it and it did the same thing, so I messed with it for a half hour and could not get it to start, I know the battery is not dead, but nothing works, no dome lights, headlights won't tun on, radar won't turn on, and it won't crank, the car will not respond to the key at all,:( the only thing that it does is the door chimes chime rapidly (quicker than usual). I am totally lost here and the problem seems to be getting worse. Any idea's? I would like to at least figure out whats wrong before I send it to a shop and run myself into more debt. I tried disconnecting the battery tonight and I will reconnect it tommorow and play with it some more, I know the battery is still good. Thanks for taking the time to read and suggest.:)

Could be the resistance pellet on the key or the ignition switch itself.

Is your security light (Red LED on your dash board, near your defroster) doing anything??

Before you even try to turn the car over tommarow when your connect the battery, see if the headlights work with out the key in the ignition.

Yea I reconnected the battery this morning and it fired right up again, as far as a security light goes I don't think my car has one since it's a base model. I am thinking it has to be the something in the ignition or maybee just the key, the chip in the key is still perfectly intact?

Im realtivly sure all F-Bodys came with the Security light.

Look at your defroster vent, You will see it, or atleast a hole where it should be.
Try cleaning both sides of your chip with an eraser.

Check the battery terminals and the cables for corrosion. Mine was doing that because the stock battery leaked acid out of the positive terminal. Even a new battery actied like it was dead. Once I cleaned out all the crap it's been OK since.

Thing happened to me 2 weeks ago. It is probably the VAts sytem. Mine had to be bypassed. VATS stands for vehicle Anti Theft Security System. Then once fixed my car started all the time.

Yea unfortunatly this what I am thinking, the pass key in the ignition is acting up although I probably should try cleaning the terminals first, they don't look dirty but it's worth a shot.

Yeah mine wasnt dirty at all either. I got ripped off for the bypass on the vats. Charges me 350 and took nine days. Man that sucked. Take it to the dealer in my opinion!!

Took car to work today (I work at a chevy dealer), had a tech check it out and he pretty much told me he would need to look at it when it was acting up again, couldn't really pin point an issue. He suggested that the battery could be jumping around under the hood and shorting it out therefore causing the problem, there are some arcing marks near the strut tower where the battery may have hit but I am not sure what to think yet. My buddy and I made up a bracket to hold the battery in place, so I guess we will see where it goes from there. I hope that takes care of it but I am not 100% sure yet.

Actually mine was doing the samething with the VATS system and I got mine fixed for 150$ in about 7 minutes. Believe it or not I called a locksmith and they did it for me. They used a little box about the size of a PS One and plugged it into the sockets where the ignition module wires connected. (Which by the way were broken which is why the car didn't start) I kinda regret getting my VATS system over ridden though I kinda miss the Security. But yeah man you should look into the VATS system some more and check your Key for wear as well.

Fixed- seemed to be the battery moving around and shorting out.
