• Car Running HOT

Just today, while driving I looked to check my gas level, and noticed my CHECK GAUGES light was on. I was looking at everything, and the only thing I noticed was the temp was a little higher. The highest it got to even driving home in a little traffic is the 3/4 mark 240? I got home and added more coolant thinking that was it, but didn't really help at all. I know I needed a flush since last year also because it was "****" brown in there. So I decided to check out the t-stat to see if any gunk was on it, but it seemed ok. So I just busted out the hose and let the hose run through the radiator til it was turning clearer water. Put the stat back in and added new coolant. Even after all of that, it's still reading hot, and the temp being at the 3/4 line, I noticed the fans aren't on. Shouldn't they be? When I turn the a/c on they them come on. The car has been sitting now for over any hour, after flushing all the hot dirty water out, and the temp is still reading at that mark. What could be wrong? I changed the waterpump last year. The t-stat was changed 2 years ago with the 160 stat. Any insight would be helpful.

You're gauge may have crapped out, possibly coolant sensor no workie no more. Just an idea

possibly a wiring short. try disconnecting the wiring to the coolant sensor and see if that changes the gage reading at all (there are two sensors i believe: one for the dash gage and one for the pcm. i dont know which is which. disconnecting the pcm one will make your engine throw a code when running).

Check the relays/fuses for the fans, replace if needed. If still good, replace temperature sensor. If neither of those, it's usually a bad fan motor.

Slight chance of corroded wires/connections, but usually one fan or the other will come on at that high temp, since the chances of both fans being taken out at the same time by corrosion is slim!
