• Engine misfiring bigtime

Hey everyone, check this out. I'm driving home from work last night and half way home out of nowhere the car starts to misfire hardcore, the service engine light comes on and the car stops shifting correctly. Also, when I'm stopped at a red light for example, the car shakes and shimmies. If I pop the car into neutral the shake goes away a little bit but is always there.

I dropped the car off at a mechanic to look at and check the error code and see what's up but anyone have an idea? I'm kind of thinking one or more of the spark plugs came loose or somehow one or more of the cylinders aren't firing correctly.

The car is a '99 v6 w/auto tranny

Any ideas?

Possibly burnt wires, fouled plugs, bad coils.. really could be a lot of things. You may have to wait until those codes are pulled to know for sure.

My car has been misfiring with my supercharger and it doesnt even throw a code, so only time will tell..

Everyohter person on this board seems to have had a misfire problem. Including me. Took my slow but 2 months to get it figured it out.

You could have bad plugs, bad wires, bad ignition coils or a bad ignition module. Your problem could be on the fuel side of things. Fuel injectors or a poor signal to the injector.

Those are just the basic first to check culprits. I can't remeber who posted it, but one member had a miss fire problem that he beleive stemmed from a clogged cat.

If your lucky all you will need is to change a wire and plug or two. Good luck.

Do people with Hondas and Acuras have these problems too? Just seems like GM has more problems than any other car maker ever.

How many miles? I had a similar problem and it was the terminals on the ignition coil. pull them and check for corrosion.

This car only has like 32k on it ... little over 32k on it. It just had a tune-up a month and a half ago or so and got new plugs and wires put in. It's been running like a champ right up till last night when all this occured.

I got a call from the mechanic and hehehe yea as I guessed one of the spark plug wires was loose. It's all good now and everything. He wouldn't even take money from me - I woulda bought the dude lunch or somethin for the hassle. But as long as my baby is back and driving woohoo

That happened to me. It maybe your coils dude. If you change your coil, make sure you change each one, if you have a 3.8. Its best to change them all at the sametime. Plus you might wanna go with some good spark plugs.

Everything was double checked, the coil pack is fine. It's that the dude that did the tune-up on the car didn't tighten one of the wires and I guess I mighta hit a bump and the cable came lose.
All good now thansk for everyones helP!
