Ok so this last summer i noticed I had some brownish, thick gunk in my coolant overflow...first thought was uh-oh its oil, but on further inspection the oil was nice and clean and there is none of this gunk in the actual radiator....so i flushed out the coolant reservoir with a pressure washer and put some extra coolant back in there....well today i went out and i have this brownish gunk in there again. It just sticks to the coolant dipstick....oil is still clean and so is the coolant in the radiator....so what gives?

Re: gunk in coolant overflow
Yes the Gunk is actually old Antifreeze....if you open your radiator cap you can see the way it is building up.
You should have flushed it as soon as you saw it last summer...but get it flushed as soon as possible. It is probably going to take a couple of flushes to get it all out.

Re: gunk in coolant overflow
If you want to do it yourself you can do a small flush.

Re: gunk in coolant overflow
hmmm....think that could be from using the pressure washer to clean it out and not letting it dry before refilling? the water at the shop i used is far from pure......that might explain it just being in the tank and not the radiator maybe?????

Re: gunk in coolant overflow
Flush the radiator and engine real good using a garden hose. Drain the system as much as you can. Using a shop vac in reverse will help get most of the water out.
Clean out the overflow reservior.
Go to the grocery store and buy 2 gallons of distilled water for about $2. Mix with fresh anti-freeze and you should be ok.

If someone mixed the two, you have a mess on your hands. Get the whole system flushed NOW!
