  • Surging at steady throttle

So heres the deal. When I'm just cruising at a steady speed, typically it seems to be around 1700rpm's, my car will start to jerk or surge. I dont know what the problem is. I'm not getting an SES light. I know the fuel pressure is ok, its right around 44, the fuel filter was replaced less than a year ago, the plugs and wires are all new, the 02 sensors are new. Does it sound like a vacuum leak, or possibly dirty injectors? I'm planning on running some Techron cleaner through it to see if that helps. I have a 1995 w/ a 3.4L if that makes any difference.

look for a vacuum leak...the idle air controller could be bad...does it rev up and down in neutral?...if thats the case, get some t/b cleaner and spray and scrub the IAC port(smaller hole in the throttle body before the butterfly valve).if that doesnt work u need a new IAC....about 20-30 bucks max, did the trick for me..i had the same symptoms...though...its doin it agian now after a few months...i think i got a defect, its really the only thing that could create these symptoms.

I just replaced the IAC valve so that isnt it, but I was thinking a vacuum leak. I don't hear any hissing such a vacuum leak, but I guess I could use a stethescope or try the propane technique.

Try spraying some carb cleaner around the vacuum area's and see if it bogs down the engine. I had a problem like that and ended up being my Intake manifold gaskett pain in butt to replace but its better than paying a mechanic tons of money to do it. ANd if you decide to check that out just clean out the fuel injectors. I actually just replaced mine but that can be pricey ran me 200 bucks for new ones ..
