That's a perfect swap for me, good horsepower and a new engine, hopefully with under 120,000 miles. I could swap one in when my current engine goes out and still have a V6 for insurance (even when I turn 25 in 5 years, i won't be able to afford it).
BUT... wouldn't you have to change other things, suspension cuz of the extra weight? And change drum breaks in the back to disc for the extra stopping power of the HP?
And there's also the extra torque. My car has 200 tq, and I'd be adding it to 350 tq. I'd think that my driveshaft would snap.
And of course, fuel economy. My car gets 19 city, 28 Hwy. If I swapped that engine, it would be 15 city, 19 hwy.
And you can almost forget about modding it. I don't imagine there being much for that engine as far as modding goes.

check again. the sy/ty platform has plenty of aftermarket backup... but that would be one hell of a swap to attempt. after you got the engine in there you'd still have to deal with cooling, transmission, and most importantly, electronics/computer control.
that's not to discourage you, but i want to get it out there right now that just because it's a V6 has nothing to do with it "bolting right up," especially if you have a 5-speed car right now.
A guy i work with has a friend who has a 4.3 vortec in his 4th gen camaro and hes running 8s. Thats with some crazy shots of nitrous though. But heck hitting 8s with a V6 is just amazing

This is for their article on a 300+HP 4.3L V6 Naturally Aspirated. I have considered doing a 4.3L Swap before as well, instead of building up the 3.4L in my '94 Camaro, I have a '98 S-10 with the 4.3L so I know what kind of power gain I could get. This mod can be done and if the person doing the swap is willing to "work" a little to get it right, I think the gains would be well worth it. One of the biggest problems for me would to make a ram-air setup for this engine like the ZZ4.3L RamJet type, which I would love. A stand-alone computer would work for EFI and after-market gauges would be utilized, LT1 or similar V8 Mounts since the 4.3L 90 degree is the same on the outside as a V8, just missing 2 jugs. Another thing is that I would need a cam and programming to change my RMP band to max higher for more top-end performance, but it can be done. As a little side-note stock 98+ 4.3L's from S-10's come with 190HP 250TQ for the high output version, the ZZ4.3L RamJet came with (260 Horsepower) (277 Foot Pounds Torque) all because it breathes better. With enough work, these engines could be potential 400HP motors. Interesting eh?
8's? he must be pushing about 800 hp at the wheels and haveing about a trap speed of 175mph
