Quickest way and safest? Stop air flow...stall the engine by placing your hand on the throttle body. -

This is why they put stall tabs on older diesels and trucks. Turn the key and pull it out and the engine can run for a while afterward unless you pull on the tab.
Never heard of it with a fuel injected car, though.'99 Camaro
