  • Im back! And with a 94 Camaro ~ need direction!

Hey ppl! Im back after a few months absence. Been in a 1991 Camaro SBC T5, and traded out the 2000 Bird.

Anyway, Ive now come in the possession of a 1994 3.4 T5 Camaro. Ive been told its been sitting for over a year and "they" thought it was the PCM. So I plugged it back in and pulled a couple of plugs to see if they have spark, and they did. I then had a friend hold open the valve to see if I was getting fuel, and I did. Then tried starter fliud and it tried to fire and run (with lots of backfire).

So where do I take it now? What to try next? Bad fuel is my guess, but I thought it should at least try to stumble...

Just had to show off :D

I would replace the gas first. Then go over tune up parts. Plugs, wires, coils, pcv, oil and filter. Then check all the vacuum hoses for cracks and connections. Then see if your getting any codes. Still no luck I would look at the Ignition control module or possible the EGR valve might be stuck opened.

Still, I think if its those issues, it still would at least try to stumble. Except gas or ICM. Tell me more about the ICM, location, function...

Whats the best way to take care of the gas problem. Do I drain it? If so how? Or do I just use fuel treatment?

I would just get a siphon hose and drain the tank as best you can. Then remove the fuel filter and let the rest drain out from there. If you see any droplets of water you're going to have to really clean the inside of the tank thorougly. If not replace filter and try starting the car after adding fresh gas to see if this is the problem. The ICM is located under the coil packs and if no good would give you a no start problem. There is a test that you can do to see if it is the problem.
My Haynes manual has a procedure in it for testing it. If you don't have one it's a good investment.

drop the tank (hope its not full) clean it out, and change the fuel filter while your under there.

Can you tell me what that procedure may be? Thanks for the info man!

the procedure is pretty arduous, it involves droppin the exhaust and i think part of the rear axel but it's possible to do.

i'd do what mr. grape escape says and get some new fuel in there and then a tune up:

plugs, wires, coils, icm, pcv, oil &filter, maybe run some injector cleaner through there, check the air filter make sure thats not clogged up etc.

all that will only cost ~ 200$ if you can bargain shop and if it doesn't start after that, youv'e narrowed it down.

When I said procedure, I meant the testing of the ICM.

As for the fuel someone mentioned disconnecting the fuel line from the filter and let the FP run all the fuel out, but Im worried about kiling the pump...

The first thing I would do is check the spark plug wires. What you're describing will occur if the wires aren't connected to the correct cylinders. Trace the wires from coil pack to cylinder and don't go by the numbers on the coil packs. From front to back on the driver's side are cylinders 2-4-6 passenger side are 1-3-5. The coils packs are 2-5, 6-3, 1-4 as you're looking from the front of the car. (1-4 is closest to drivers side fender)

I will def check this. Its very possible, and probable, because there is nothing else in the car except an empty spark plug box. We will see :)

I got sick last night, so I didnt get any sleep. So in turn I wasnt able to get over to work on the car. Ill update as soon as I can. I will start with the plug wire routing first, and if that checks out then Ill drain out the fuel.

Can someone confirm this? 1-4 is closest to the driver side. Both my car and haynes says 2-5 is... From pass to driver it says 14 63 25...

Next thing I will try is check the plug gap.

What page number does the haynes mention ICM? I cant seem to find it, and the index is worthless...
